The Modern Alternative to Green Sand and No-Bake

Core Pack Technology is an advanced sand-casting method where multiple pre-shot sand cores are assembled into a complete, self-supporting mould package. It bridges the gap between green sand and no-bake processes, unlocking far greater geometric complexity, tighter tolerances, and cleaner castings, with the throughput of automated series production.

Instead of building moulds around cores, the cores themselves become the mould. This enables intricate internal passages, undercuts, and thin-walled castings that are simply not possible with conventional techniques, making it the technology of choice for modern cylinder heads, engine blocks, hydraulic manifolds, and energy components.

The 7-Step Core Pack Process

A continuous, automated flow from raw sand to finished casting, every stage engineered by Axmann.

1

Core Shooting

Automated core shooters form precise sand cores from resin-coated or cold-box sand, the fundamental building blocks of the mould package.

2

Core Assembly

Individual cores are robotically positioned and joined, forming the complete, self-supporting mould geometry without an outer flask.

3

Gluing & Bonding

Precision adhesive application bonds the cores into one rigid pack, ready to handle the thermal and hydrostatic loads of molten metal.

4

Coating & Drying

The assembled pack is coated to improve surface finish and prevent metal penetration, then dried in controlled-atmosphere ovens.

5

Pouring

Automated pouring systems deliver molten metal with controlled flow rates and temperatures, ensuring consistent casting quality.

6

Cooling

Packs travel through cooling tunnels with precisely controlled residence times, delivering stable mechanical properties in the finished part.

7

Shakeout & Reclamation

Castings are separated from sand; the sand is mechanically and thermally reclaimed for reuse, closing the loop and minimising waste.

Advantages Over Conventional Casting

Greater Geometric Complexity

Thin walls, undercuts, and internal channels that cannot be produced with green-sand moulding.

Superior Dimensional Accuracy

Tighter tolerances and repeatability across every pack, less machining, less scrap.

Higher Throughput

Continuous, automated flow rivals the speed of green-sand lines while delivering no-bake quality.

Reduced Manual Labour

Robotic assembly and handling remove the heaviest, most repetitive foundry tasks.

Lower Scrap Rates

Clean, stable moulds and controlled pouring mean fewer rejects, and more good castings per shift.

Closed-Loop Sustainability

Integrated reclamation returns sand to the line, reducing input costs and environmental impact.
